Describe a book or
article that you enjoy reading for your studies...
1. What the book or
article was about
2. why you read it
3. How long it took
you read
4. and explain why
you enjoy reading it
The book that I really enjoy reading for my study is any
book published by Cambridge University Press or Oxford Publication. The books
are mainly related to my job which is IELTS and Academic English books. It is
very important for me to keep up-to-date with the latest publication in IELTS
and by purchasing the books from these two publishers I can be confident with
my knowledge, and having high confidence in yourself is very important for
teachers. I usually use the book and read it for about a week or two, usually
it wouldn’t be longer than 3 weeks. I really enjoy reading these books as I
love English and I am amazed by the quality of these two publication. Big names
such as Martin Hewings, Raymond Murphy, and Michael Swan they’re all famous
writers who work for these publishers. Quality writer ensures a good reading
experience.
1. Why do some adult
dislike reading?
Adults don’t have enough time other than doing their
responsibility in the workplace or to spend quality time with family and
children. Even if they have some spare time, if they’re not avid reader, they
will use that free time to do something else. The problem is, for some people
with a good reading habit, reading can be a fun and enjoyable experience,
however, for most people who are not used to reading, it can be painful. Books
are important but the limited time and the stress of modern life drive people
away from this advantageous activity.
2. What sort of
problems do adults have if they can't read or write?
Literacy is vital in life. That is why there are efforts
from the government to increase citizen literacy up to 100%. When someone can’t
read or write, it will automatically hamper themselves to experience the fullest
of their life. Let’s say if someone can’t read the subtitle of foreign TV
program, it means he/she will not be able to keep up with current
entertainment. They also won’t be able to use newspaper as their source of
news. In fact, they won’t be able to use computer or even mobile phone
properly. In short, it will be a lot of hassle if someone can’t read or write
in this modern era.
3. How can people be
encourage to read more?
The habit of reading should be started when people are
young. You cannot encourage people to create a new habit when they have become
an adult. Reading is a difficult thing which is not suitable for everyone. I
mean everyone can read, obviously. But not everyone consider reading on their
top list of things to do to spend one’s free time. Some people even think that
reading a book is a waste of time. So, to encourage people to read more, we
need quality reading materials. And to do this, there needs to be an incentive
for author who write stuff like this. We need to appreciate authors more than
we do now. Only when we respect the writer, will people be more interested in
writing good stuff, and sooner or later, people will want to read all that good
stuff.
4. Why do some
children stop reading books as they get older?
As I have mentioned earlier, the problem with being adults
is the staggering amount of responsibility you need to handle. As the result,
your time to do other things is quite limited. When the time is limited, it
will go down to a matter of priority. Some people choose to use their limited
free time to spend with their friends doing activities like going to the club,
or playing indoor football. Some others may choose to play latest console
games. What we need to understand is that compared to current varieties of entertainment,
reading is not really an interesting choice. It is advantageous and offers lots
of benefit, but it’s kinda boring.
5. How could
teenagers be encouraged to read more?
Well, one thing that can be tried is to develop and finance
a luxurious book club. What is a book club? Not many people now what a book
club is. A book club is a place where you go to discuss books that you are
going to read – like a sort of meeting – and then you read the book after a
week or so, you will meet again in the same place, and discuss what you get
from the reading with other members of the book club. This way, reading has a
chance to become a social activity. Fancy meetings with girls and boys of your
age with the same interest, go to a book club. Not to mention, there will be
snack and tea, the British way.
1. Do you have any
museums in your home town? What can you see and do there?
The museum in my hometown is called museum Balaputra Dewa.
In this place we can see the history of the Sriwijaya Kingdom which rules in
Palembang during the 15th century. There are many ancient relics and carved
stones that will be explained by the guide. In addition, we can also see the
variety of cultural performances and art exhibition by Palembang citizen from
time to time. Traditional dances, food, clothes are some of the things you need
to see and try when you visit this museum.
2. What types of
museum do you most enjoy visiting? Why?
I really want to visit a museum that displays lots of things
about war. I think it is important to see that kind of museum in order to
appreciate more about the heroic effort done by our soldiers and common citizen
in the past in order to achieve freedom. Indonesia is a relatively young
country. Gaining its independence in 1945, Indonesia had long feud history with
both Japan and the Netherlands. I think modern people of Japan and the
Netherlands also need to see what their ancestors did to a weak country and
therefore they should not be so pompous or arrogance.
