Do you think people
today are working more (hours per week) than people did in the past?
The lack of economy stability in my country means that
people today work more than they did in the past. Business isn't as good as it
was .. let's say thirty years ago, well, the economy in general is developing
but the value of your money becomes less and less .. In the past people worked
for 50 hours a week, but now, it is obviously more than that.
Do you think an
increase in people's leisure time might improve their working efficiency?
It is not directly related. If people are stress then they
need something to release the burden. The efficiency isn't about relieving the
stress. Efficiency is all about learning strategies and tactics to become more
efficient in what you do. I'll give you an example. If a shop owner, has become
so stressful in his job, then he is spending two weeks in Bali. It won't do
much to improve his efficiency. But if he use that two weeks to attend a
workshop on how to improve business and how to communicate professionally, then
there is a likely chance that he will be more efficient.
Describe a place with
a lot of water (such as a river, a lake or the ocean) that you enjoyed
visiting.
You should say:
where this place was
what people were
doing at this place (Or, what you did there)
why you went there
who you went there
with *
and explain why you
liked this place.
I enjoyed going to Lematang River in Lahat, South Sumatra.
This place is about six hours from Palembang, Indonesia. People use this river
to swim and to take a shower sometimes. It was not too deep, but the stream
flows quite rapidly, so it will be pretty dangerous if you are not used to
stepping on a river stone which can be quite slippery sometimes. I went there
because that was the place of my grandma's brother. I went there with all the
cousins I have from my father's side. I really liked this place because the weather
was so cold and freezing. It's a rare experience in a tropical country like
Indonesia. Swimming in the river is so exciting, I have to say. Everyone needs
to try it once in a while for a new experience. Swimming in the pool is so
mainstream and not really challenging.
Are holidays
(vacations) to places with lots of water very popular in your country?
Well, it depends, I guess. If you live in an area .. let's
say near the beach or near the seaside .. you will develop the skill for
swimming and love for water since your childhood. As the result you may want to
go to the beach or swimming pool. But for people like me who grew up in the
middle of a concrete jungle, I don't really want to go near water if I don't
really have to do so. I think there are lots of people who can't swim and so
they hate going near water. I am one of those people.
What activities do
(or can) people do on (or, in) the water?
People may want to surf. Swimming is obvious. Renting a
unique boat, Diving, and snorkeling maybe. What else, ... enjoying romantic
view and having dinner on a boat. Fishing. Well, there are countless activities
that people can do if they go to a river or a sea something like that. Young
people, for example, they really like whitewater rafting because they prefer
challenging activities to do in water. I saw my friends do rafting once, it was
so exciting!
Can you explain why
people enjoy spending leisure time at a beach or river?
Change of scenery. That's the obvious reason. After weeks
trapped in the cubicle in your office, after hundreds hours spent in the
meeting room, going to the beach will be so refreshing and exciting. First, the
atmosphere, it is so different because you can smell the sea and you can also
enjoy the sunset and the sunrise. Second of all, it is so romantic to see the
moon and the stars when you are at the beach ... why? because there is the sound
of the waves swept in the seashore... You can imagine it I bet, ...
In what ways do
people use water?
People use water for various reasons. For public supply,
rural domestic and livestock irrigation, thermo-electric power and many other
purposes. So we can say, it is important for domestic and for industry.
Do you think the way
people in your country today use water has changed, compared to the past ?
Generally speaking, I believe there has been quite a
significant change in the way people preserving water. People now have better
understanding that water is a very useful resource. In the past, most people
waste so much amount of water because they are not educated by the government.
Today, as water becomes scarce in many places, effort to educate the public has
been encouraged more than ever. I think it is important that we use our
resource in a sustainable way.
Do you think people
today are using more water, or less water than they used to?
This is interesting. I think the way people use the water has
actually been improved. But, and this is important, the number of people is
just keep growing. So there are more people now than in the past. It is obvious
that for this reason, more water is used these days. Household purposes such as
drinking, food preparation, bathing, washing clothes and dishes, flushing
toilets, and outdoor purposes such as watering lawns and gardens ... these
activities are done by more people .. so more water is used today.
In your opinion,
should the personal use of water be controlled (or, restricted)?
Water will become more valuable in the future, at least that
is what I believe. Now, what it really implies is that it will be more
expensive, and there will be many businessman who try to get the rights to
control water. For common people, water will be more expensive and will be more
difficult to obtain. So if you don't want your bill to make you broke, it makes
sense to limit your personal use of water.
Can you suggest any
water saving measures?
Well, that's easy. Everyone really needs to check their
faucets, taps and pipes for leaks. If there is a single undetected spot that
drips water every day, you can waste hundreds of gallons easily without you
know anything about it. Toilets should also be checked for leaks. People also use
dishwasher these days, and sometimes they use it while it wasn't fully loaded.
That's a big waste. You should only use the washing machine or dishwasher with
full load capacity. That way you help the environment and save yourself lots of
wasteful water.
